Jury trials this week

After the busy few weeks, just two jury trials in the district courts this week:

147th JUDICIAL DISTRICT/ JUDGE FLOWERS

Defendant: Cedric Smith
Offense: Possession of a controlled substance
Prosecutors: Chris Baugh and Allison Wetzel
Defense attorney : Mark Sampson


390th JUDICIAL DISTRICT/ JUDGE KOCUREK

Defendant: Adrian Perez
Offense: Aggravated sexual assault of a child
Prosecutors: Yvonne Patten and Joe Frederick
Defense attorney: Kent Anschutz

  1. I was in called as a potential juror in the Perez case, but not chosen to sit on the jury. It looks like a really tough case. I'm relieved not to be on the jury, because it seemed that any way it turned out, the verdict would have haunted me for a long time.

  2. Anon: thanks for the comment. I imagine you are right, I don't know anything at all about the case but I can imagine they are hard to sit through. That said, I think most jurors, even in tough cases, feel like the experience was worthwhile. Hopefully those sitting on this case will feel that way, too.
